What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools so that they can support their disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between them and their peers. The Pupil Premium attracts up to £1320 per disadvantaged child and looked after children (LAC) £1900.

"The government believes that the pupil premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most."

The pupil premium was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last six years (known as ‘Ever 6 FSM’).

What do we do at Brookside Primary?

Here at Brookside Primary School we currently use the funding to provide targeted English and Maths sessions within school to support those children eligible for the Pupil Premium funding. This focused support has seen an increased development of those individuals who have taken part within these sessions.

It has also been utilised to enable these children to access the broader curriculum opportunities such as trips, after school clubs and swimming lessons within our school.
